The Orange Cloggers and the Orange County Fair teamed up last year to bring to Virginia “The Orange County Clogging Competition” and it has quickly become an annual event. 2007 was the first year this event took place and it became Virginia’s largest clogging competition with teams coming from all across the state to participate. For 2008 the Orange County Fair has moved the event to be under their biggest tent since in 2007 the tent was filled to capacity with people standing all around the tent to watch the competition all day long. The Fair Board even said how the whole event just ebbed and pulsed with excitement, enthusiasm, and energy the entire time.
We feel our competition is not so much about who is the best and who can outdo whom, it’s about teams coming together, meeting each other, getting ideas from each other, seeing what each of us can do, and most importantly having fun. Of course, while trophies are given away, we also give recognition and thanks to those who participate and help make the event a success! It’s a major component. There are many expenses, however, we try to obtain sponsors so that we can keep our entry fees low and have prizes and giveaways for those who come to compete.
This year’s event will be taking place on Saturday, July 26th on the grounds in front of Montpelier, the boyhood home of James Madison, our 4th President. This is the last year that the fair will be taking place at this specific location, so for those whom have not been to this event, we strongly recommend coming this year. The competition is scheduled to run from 10 am to 8 pm, rain or shine.
