Welcome
Cloggers!

My Mom, Sister, Aunts, Uncle, & baby Counsin started
clgging in the early 90s with a group in Franklin, VA
called The County Line Cloggers. They all seemed to
love the classes and learning the simple basic routines.
None of them ever considered performing with the
group, they just wanted to take the classes together
and get some exercise. I was busy with Marching Band
in High School and couldn't be bothered by this thing
called clogging, so I never went to class with them. As
a matter of fact, I vowed I would NEVER do it!!!! After I
graduated High School in June of 1993, I found myself a
little bored because all the demands of Marching Band
had come to an end. I felt like I had this big huge hole in
my social life. Marching competitions and practices
consumed my life for the past four years, now what
was I going to do. By this time most of my family had
stopped taking clogging lessons, but my sister was still
involved. I thought I'd give it a try. I loved spending time

with my sister, who had been married and out of the house since I was 14 years old. I missed my sister
and clogging was a way for us to be together at least once a week. We tried out for the team and made it
on the same night July 4th, 1994. It was so much interest. I had made so many other friends that I decided
to stick with it. I started choreographing routines and the instructor allowed me to teach them to the team.
Soon after I became the assistant director of The County Line Cloggers, choreographing and teaching
routines and organizing shows. I clogged through my first pregnancy and loved every minute of it. When I
was pregnant with my second child, our instructor decided to call it quits. No more County Line Cloggers.
I was determined to keep the spirit of clogging alive in Franklin and Southampton County, no matter what it
took!!!! I was unable to rent the same building we were currently in, I had no access to the County Line
name, and I was unable to claim any of our sound equipment. I didn't even have the names and numbers
of our annual fairs and events. It was like everything and everyone was against me carrying on with
clogging in this area. Many (heck nearly ALL) of the cloggers refused to join another organization out of
respect to our retired instructor. So here I was, 7 months pregnant with a 2 year old at home, a full-time
job with my company, and NO contacts to do shows. I prayed, prayed, prayed and the Lord directed me to
a little dance studio 7 miles from where I had clogged for the past 12 years. I walked inside and simply
asked if I could rent space one night a week for a clogging class. She said YES!!!! I couldn't believe it, I
could do this after all. I rushed out and got my business license and liability insurance the next day. I
placed several small ads in the local paper advertising basic clogging lessons. I researched and got in
touch with fairs and events all over our local area. I named us the Rhythm Sensation Cloggers or RS for
short. We wore shorts and T-shirts or Jeans or whatever we could find that matched. Finally we got our
Hot Pink outfits together and began looking more and more like a real team. Today we are a group of over
20 girls and women. We had 25+ clogging performances over the course of 2007. We all love clogging, but
more importantly, we love each other. I ran into the vary instructor who tried to "destroy" clogging for me
and the Southampton County area. I greeted him with a smile of forgiveness and a few short words of
kindness. No matter how many BAD things he said about me, I never uttered an unkind word publicly
about him. The Lord has blessed me with a special talent.......................I think the clogging is just a bonus.
